Online Desk: The water of the Teesta river is flowing above the danger level in Lalmonirhat district on Monday due to the heavy rains and upstream water. The river water flow was recorded at 52.35 meters at 6 am on Monday at Teesta Barrage Dalia Point under Hatibandha upazila in the district, country’s largest irrigation project, which is flowing 20 cm above the danger level (normal 52.15 meters).

Due to the increase in Teesta water flow in India’s Ghazaldoba, the upstream surge has increased the water flow at Dalia Point, the barrage authorities said. The riverside people said due to rising water, the low lying areas along the left banks of the river have been flooded. Crop fields in low-lying areas are inundated. Hundreds of families have been waterlogged. Char area communication has already been cut off.

Water Development Board (BWDB) Teesta Barrage Dalia Branch executive engineer Asfa-ud-Daula said, “The flow of the Teesta water has increased due to rain and upstream water. All sluice gates of Teesta Barrage have been opened to control the flow of water.”
