Chuadanga logs season’s highest temperature for 4th consecutive day

Online Desk: Amid the scorching heat in different parts of the country, Chuadanga recorded the highest temperature for the fourth consecutive day Friday.

Rakibul Hasan, a senior observer of Chuadanga First Class Meteorological Observatory said they recorded 41.3 Degrees Celsius at 3 pm on Friday.

Earlier, Chuadanga recorded 40.6, 40.8 and 40.4 Degrees Celsius, respectively on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, he said.

People are experiencing blistering heat as a severe heat wave is sweeping over the district.

Besides, the Meteorological Department has issued a heatwave warning for the next 72 hours.

Dr Aoliar Rahman, health and family planning officer for Chuadanga Sadar upazila, advised the residents to stay indoors because of the risk of heatstroke.

He emphasised the importance of staying hydrated and consuming fruits as much as possible.

Bivas Chandra Saha, Deputy Director of Chuadanga Agricultural Extension Department, advised the farmers to protect their crops in the ongoing heatwaves.

“As the situation may persist for a few more days, farmers of this region were advised how they can save their crops,” he added.

The people of the district especially the low-income people are in dire straits due to intense heat.

Working people were seen resting under trees and in shady places hoping for some relief.

Azgar Hossain, a battery-run van driver and Liakat Ali, a rickshaw puller of Chuadanga town, said that they couldn’t do anything due to the sweltering heat. They don’t have passengers as very few people come out of their homes. As a result, they are struggling to run their family with less income.

Farhad Hossain, a grocer in Mominpur area of Chuadanga Sadar Upazila, said “The sale is low due to the hot temperature. People are passing their time sitting and lying on the benches.”

Latifun Nahar, a resident of Gulshanpara in Chuadanga, said that she is suffering a lot with her babies. ” We can’t stay indoors due to the intense heat.  My 3-year-old child fell ill due to severe heat,” she added.

According to BMD’s weather bulletin on Friday morning, a severe heat wave is sweeping over the districts of Bagerhat, Jashore, Chuadanga and Kushtia and a mild to moderate heat wave is sweeping over Dhaka & Rajshahi divisions and the districts of Dinajpur, Rangamati, Chandpur, Khulna, Satkhira, Barishal and Patuakhali and it may continue.

Meanwhile, rain or thunder showers accompanied by temporary gusty or squally wind are likely to occur at one or two places over Dhaka, Chattogram and Sylhet divisions with hails at isolated places.
