Online Desk : Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) has started its scheduled rally in the capital’s Shahbagh. The rally formally began after 2:30PM on Sunday with the recitation from the verses of the Holy Quran. Defying rain, leaders and supporters of the party from different parts of the country gathered at the rally venue since morning for the rally, organised by the student wing of BNP. BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman joined the rally virtually. The party Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir and other senior leaders are also present. Roads around the Shahbagh intersection are crowded with JCD activists, causing traffic disruption in the adjoining areas. Additional security forces have been deployed in the area centering the rally.
Several big screens and projectors have also been installed to help people follow the event. JCD leaders said ambulances and emergency vehicles will be allowed to pass freely through the alley between Aziz Super Market and PG Hospital, from Katabon intersection to Hotel InterContinental. Police have shut down traffic on Shahbagh, Dhaka University and Matsyabhaban roads since morning due to the rally.
