Online Desk: Transport movement in Habiganj remained suspended from Sunday morning following a strike called by the District Road Transport Workers Union and Ambulance Owners Workers Association. The strike began at 6am.

They called the indefinite strike to press home their nine-point demand including ambulance parking facility on the premises of Habiganj Sadar Hospital. Passengers have been suffering immensely as the transport workers went on strike without any prior announcement. Some were seen returning as no buses or other transportation was found at Habiganj municipal bus terminal.

Sajib Ali, president of the union, said that recently, the authorities of Habiganj Sadar Hospital have banned the parking of ambulances on the hospital premises. In protest, the ambulance driver-owners association has been observing a strike for a week by shutting down emergency services. “Expressing solidarity with them, the district road transport workers’ union called for a transport strike in the entire district by holding an emergency meeting on Saturday night,” he added.
