The Prime Minister said that a large part of Chittagong city is now submerged in water, as a result of which people are suffering greatly. The concerned administration and the City Corporation are working together to deal with the situation. However, the waterlogging has taken such a large scale that it will take some time to resolve it.
He also said, ”I sincerely express my sorrow over the suffering of the people of Chattogram. Efforts are being made to bring people out of this disaster as soon as possible.”
”Waterlogging has been our problem for a long time. A politician was an expert in solving this problem, the late President Ziaur Rahman. He created water reservoirs and eliminated floods and waterlogging by digging canals across the country. We need to go back to that canal digging program and the government has already started it.”
He said, the flow of water is being obstructed due to dumping of plastic, polythene and waste in drains and canals, which is one of the main reasons for waterlogging. Therefore, it is very important to increase public awareness.
