Online Desk: Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) has formed a probe committee to investigate the death of a land office staff member Sultana Jesmine in RAB custody. The RAB headquarters formed a three-member probe committee on Monday. According to RAB, the probe committee has already started working.

Commander Khandaker Al Moin, director of RAB’s legal and media wing, on Tuesday at a press conference at RAB media centre in Dhaka said Jesmine was arrested based on the complaint of joint secretary Enamul Haque. “Jesmine was interrogated in front of some people, including Enamul Haque. She confessed her crime during interrogation. She felt ill while taking to the police station. Enamul was also present at that time.”

According to RAB, “Enamul Haque complained that his Facebook ID was hacked. A fake Facebook ID has been opened in his name. Using his name and title, some fraudsters have taken money from people by offering jobs.” Khandaker Al Moin said, “On March 19 and 20, Enamul came to know that cheat was occurred using his name and title and one Al Amin was involved in this fraud. He got information that Jesmine was also involvement in this fraud as Al Amin’s accomplice.”

“Enamul complained about this to the RAB patrol team while going to his office on March 22. Based on this complaint, RAB arrested Jasmine in front of him. Other people were also present at the time of the arrest. Jesmine was interrogated in front of everyone. Two women members of RAB interrogated her.” Jesmine admitted her involvement in the crime at that time, he added. RAB has formed a probe committee over the death of Jasmine.

RAB picked up Jesmine around 10:00am on Wednesday (March 22) from Muktir More point in Naogaon town when she was on her way to Chandipur Union Land Office. She was an office assistant there. She was picked up after she came out of her rented house at Janakalyan Mahalla in Naogaon town.

She died at 9:00am on Friday (March 24) at the Rajshahi Medical College Hospital (RMCH). RAB claimed that there was an allegation of fraud against Jesmine. She was arrested for questioning on the basis of the allegation. A day after her detention, she was sued under the DSA in Rajshahi “for taking money from job seekers using Facebook account”.
