Online Desk: Prothom Alo journalist Shamsuzzaman Shams has been granted bail by a Dhaka court in a case filed under the Digital Security Act (DSA) upon a bond of Tk 20,000. Dhaka’s Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Asaduzzaman Nur passed the order.
Dhaka Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Tofazzel Hossain sent Shamsuzzaman, Savar Correspondent of the Daily Prothom Alo, to jail on March 30 in the DSA case rejecting his bail plea.
Lawyer Abdul Malek (Mashiur Malek) lodged the case early hours of March 30 with Ramna Police Station accusing the newspaper’s editor Matiur Rahman, reporter Shamsuzzaman Shams, an unnamed ‘assistant cameraman’, and unnamed others of “using print, online, and electronic media to tarnish the image and reputation of the state”.
