The Daily Morning Voice Online Desk: Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader today said remaining orderly and united was the party’s message in the lead-up to the next national election. “We want to build a well-ordered, well-organised, united Awami League with the goal of building a smart Bangladesh under the leadership of Sheikh Hasina. We are ready for the next election. We are ready to run the next government. Remaining united and orderly is our message,” Quader said while visiting the historic Suhrawardy Udyan, the venue for Awami League’s 22nd national conference on Saturday.
Saying it is imperative that Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina remains as the AL chief, Quader, also the road transport and bridges minister, said, “The president post is indispensable; our president is the symbol of our unity. She is essential here. Not a single councillor can be found who does not want her. “Many leaders may have the desire to be the general secretary. Awami League is a democratic party. As far as I know, there are at least 10 people who are qualified to be the general secretary of Awami League. It [the decision of who will be the general secretary] will be based on the wish of the Awami League president and the councillors’ opinion. Everything will be reflected in the second session [of the national conference], after 3:00pm. The session that will be held [election session] will be decided with the opinion of the councillors. So, I can’t name anyone at the moment.”
