AL has no chance to contest upcoming elections : Press Secretary

Online Desk : Shafiqul Alam, Press Secretary to the Chief Adviser of the interim government, has said that the entire nation is prepared for the upcoming national elections. However, he asserted that the Awami League will not be able to take part in the polls. “The elections will be held in the first half of February,” Alam stated. “All parties are in agreement on this. It will be the most transparent and successful election in Bangladesh’s history.”
The Press Secretary made these remarks after placing a floral tribute at the July Martyrs’ Memorial near the Nabaganga River Bridge in Magura at around 10 a.m. on Friday. He said the memorial was built so the nation would always remember the sacrifices of the July Martyrs. “The entire nation is ready for the elections,” Shafiqul continued. “All election-related institutions have already begun their preparations. Once the rainy season ends, the election atmosphere will be visible everywhere.”
When asked whether the Awami League would be able to participate, Alam replied, “The Awami League, which is involved in disappearances and killings, has no chance of taking part in the upcoming national elections.” Addressing questions about the ‘no vote’ option, Shafiqul said, “If there is only one candidate in a constituency, the ‘no vote’ option will be available as per the Representation of the People Order (RPO). Therefore, there is no possibility of anyone being elected unopposed.”
