Anisul claims sole ownership of JaPa’s plough symbol

Online Desk : Barrister Anisul Islam Mahmud, chairman of a faction of the Jatiya Party, on Saturday has asserted that his group represents the party’s only legitimate leadership and is the sole claimant of its election symbol, the Langal (plough). Speaking at an urgent press conference at Gulshan in Dhaka, Anisul Islam said the party’s 10th National Council, held on August 9 according to the party constitution and RPO regulations, elected him as chairman and ABM Ruhul Amin Howlader as general secretary.
“After submitting the new committee and council documents to the Election Commission, GM Quader can no longer claim the Jatiya Party chairmanship. The Langal symbol belongs to the registered party, not any individual,” he added. The press conference was held following Election Commission Chief AMM Nasir Uddin’s remark that multiple factions claimed the Langal symbol. Anisul Islam accused some groups of submitting conflicting applications to confuse the commission and stressed that only the lawful democratic leadership can claim the symbol.
He also criticized GM Quader, saying, “He once demanded the execution of Sheikh Hasina and at another time claimed elections would only be valid without the Awami League. It is time to consider the political relevance of someone with such double standards.” Senior leaders of Anisul Islam’s faction, including General Secretary ABM Ruhul Amin Howlader, Senior Co-Chairman Kazi Firoz Rashid, Executive Chairman Mujibul Haq Chunnu, and others, were present at the press conference.
