Online Desk: Police yesterday arrested two more people in connection with the attack on Ashraful Alom alias Hero Alom, an independent candidate in the Dhaka-17 by-polls. They were arrested from Tejgaon area in the capital last night, Mostafizur Rahman, officer-in-charge of Banani Police Station, told The Daily Star today.
The two arrestees are Manik Gazi and Al Amin. Police said they were the main attackers. A total of nine people were arrested in connection with the attack so far.
Alom was physically assaulted at a polling centre in Banani around 3:20pm on Monday, the day of the Dhaka-17 by-polls. The OC said that Manik held Hero Alom’s waist during the attack, and Al Amin beat him, as seen in footage captured by CCTV cameras.
Earlier, police arrested seven ruling party men in connection with the assault.
