Online Desk: National Environmental Olympiad 2023 at university level under the initiative of Bangladesh Poribeshbid s Society has been completed for the first time in the country. The event was organised at the Institute of Architects Bangladesh, Agargaon in Dhaka. Those who had passed the national level examination at the regional (university) level participated the competition. Crest and prize money were given among the winners at the closing ceremony. Deputy minister Environment, Forest and Climate Change Habibun Nahar MP was present as chief guest at the event.
About 600 students studying environmental science related subjects in various universities took part in the 1st National Environmental Olympiad. Of them Sifat Aysha of BUP got the first prize, Rahamonia Khanam of BAU got the second prize and Farhana Karim of NSTU got the third prize.
Distributing the prizes among the winners the chief guest said the initiative of ‘Bangladesh Poribeshbid Society’ would encourage the students studying environmental science in different universities to know about various environmental issues and sustainable development.
National Environment Award 2019 winner Dr. Qazi Kholiquzzaman Ahmad, Chairman, PKSF and Dhaka School of Economics was present as honorary chair at the function. He advised the contestants to focus on various issues of environmental science and environmental economics for preventing environmental pollutions.
Speaking as special guest at the function Prof Dr Md Sirajul Islam Treasurer, Moulana Bhashani Science and Technology University, Dept. of Environmental Science and Resource Management said specialized national environmental training institutes are essential to enhance the skill of environmental graduates. ‘In future, we hope that the government would take initiative to establish environmental cadres to augment the environmental development work across the country.’
Professor Dr.Towhida Rashid, Dept. of Meteorology, University of Dhaka ; Professor Chowdhury Akhtar Asif, additional managing director and group chief risk officer, Mutual Trust Bank Ltd, M Zakir Hossain Khan, executive director, Change Initiative, Mr. Mahamud Hasan, chief executive officer of GSCS International Limited and Md. Ziaur Rahman, chief operating officer, PDCA International Ltd were present at the event. The function was chaired by executive director of Bangladesh Poribeshbid Society, Poribeshbid Abu Jubayer.
Program coordinator director (finance and administration) Poribeshbid Sk. Abu Jahid and program was conducted by Poribeshbid FM Ashraful Alam, director (Education and Professional Development) of Bangladesh Poribeshbid Society.
