BSMMU Hospital is not suitable for gentlemen, court observes

Online Desk: The High court on Monday observed that the environment of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University Hospital was not suitable for gentlemen. “The name of Bangabandhu was tainted after renaming the hospital after him. Neither Awami League government nor Bangladesh Nationalist Party-led government could make a standard hospital in Bangladesh,” said the High Court.
The bench of Justice KM Kamrul Kader and Justice Md Showkat Ali Chowdhury made the observations during a petition seeking a directive to the government to allow BNP leader Azizul Bari Helal to go abroad for medical treatment. Advocate Nitai Roy Chowdhury stood for BNP leader Azizul Bari Helal during the hearing.
In the hearing, Nitai said, “Helal is being barred from go abroad as there are many politically motivated cases against him. He needed to take medical treatment abroad as he was suffering from liver disease.” At that time, the High Court told Nitai that “You engaged in politics. Your party (BNP) ruled the country for a long time but failed to make a standard hospital. Neither you (BNP) nor the current ruling party was able to establish a standard hospital.”
Justice KM Kamrul Kader said, “I went to BSMMU Hospital few days ago. There is no environment for gentlemen to go there.” Later, the court fixed Thursday for passing order if Helal would be permitted to go abroad.
