Concerns over election integrity persist until votes are counted : BNP leader Gayeshwar

Online Desk : Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Standing Committee member Gayeshwar Chandra Roy has raised significant concerns over the integrity of the upcoming elections, stating, “Democracy is still out of reach. We want to believe the elections will take place, but there are fears about the process until the votes are counted.” Roy made these remarks during a doa program held at the BNP’s Nayapaltan central office on the occasion of the 81st birthday of party Chairperson Khaleda Zia. He continued, “There are conspiracies surrounding the election. We must be cautious and avoid falling into any traps.”
Praising Khaleda Zia, Roy said, “She has become the guardian of the nation. Not only is she the BNP chairperson, but she also represents the fight for democracy. Though Begum Zia never celebrated her own birthday, we honor it in her name.” Fellow BNP Standing Committee member Nazrul Islam Khan emphasized, “The Awami League has pushed Khaleda Zia toward severe political and personal hardship due to her popularity.”
BNP leaders expressed hope that under the leadership of Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman, democracy would be revived in the country. Mirza Abbas, another senior BNP leader, recalled the political pressure Begum Zia faced during the 2008 elections, saying, “She was forced to go to the polls under pressure from certain political factions.”
