Jonny, general secretary of JCD Khilgaon Thana unit, a pro-BNP student body, was allegedly killed in a “gunfight” with police in Dhaka’s Khilgaon area on January 20, 2015, a day after his arrest in an arson case. The victim’s father Md Yakub Ali filed the case today with the Dhaka Metropolitan Sessions Judge’s Court under section 15(2) of the Torture and Custodial Death (Prohibition) Act, 2013. Judge Md Asaduzzaman recorded the statement of the complainant and said he would pass an order on the issue later in the day.
