Online Desk : Police recovered the bodies of the wife of an expatriate and two children from a rented apartment in Manikganj’s Paschim Bandutia area on Tuesday. The incident took place in the afternoon when police broke down the door of the residence around 2:00 PM and spotted the three bodies inside. The dead have been identified as Shekha Akter, 29, wife of Malaysian expatriate Shahin Dewan; her 11-year-old son Alvi; and 2-year-old daughter Saifa. The family originally hailed from Harirampur upazila.
According to police and local residents, Shekha Akter had been living in a rented flat on the second floor of a building owned by one Rahat Salman. In the morning, a neighboring tenant named Alamgir went to deliver the electricity bill but received no response from the family. After several hours of knocking and calling without any reply, he contacted emergency services by dialing 999.Later, police arrived and recovered the bodies from the scene.
Manikganj Police Super Yasmin Khatun said that Shekha Akter had rented the flat last month. She is Shahin Dewan’s second wife. Her son Alvi is the son of his previous wife. Initial suspicion is that Shekha Akhter committed suicide by consuming poison due to a family dispute and also killed her two children. The bodies have been sent to the morgue for autopsy.
