Online Desk : The National Consensus Commission’s (NCC’s) ongoing dialogue with political parties was temporarily suspended on Monday after a sudden fire alarm rang at Shapla Hall of the Foreign Service Academy in Dhaka. The alarm began sounding around 12:15 pm, causing brief panic among participants. Vice chairman of the commission, Professor Ali Riaz, instructed everyone to evacuate the venue at approximately 12:20 pm. The alarm stopped around 12:25 pm and the session resumed around 12:45 pm.
Several officials on duty at the academy said that as soon as the fire alarm went off, they tried to check whether there was a fire anywhere. But they didn’t find any signs of fire. Later, the officials learned that the alarm had been triggered by smoke released from people smoking cigarettes.
