Force cannot sustain power anymore : Parwar

Online Desk : Jamaat-e-Islami Secretary General Professor Mia Golam Parwar has declared that the era of governing the country by force is over. Speaking at a protest rally at held Rangpur Public Library grounds after Friday prayers, he said, “Those who dream of lifelong power by suppressing opposition are living in the past. If you have courage, hold a referendum. We respect the people’s verdict; no one can cling to power by force.”
Parwar warned that holding elections under the current state framework without implementing essential reforms could lead to another authoritarian government. “Elections without reforms would result in another Hasina and a new wave of fascism. The people of Bengal will never allow that,” he said. He called on the government to adopt the PR (proportional representation) system, citing surveys showing 70% public support and endorsement from 25 of the 31 parties in the National Unity Commission. He added, “If the people approve PR, the government must implement it.
If the verdict goes against PR, Jamaat-e-Islami will accept it. But the government fears a referendum because PR ensures an inclusive, corruption-free, and high-quality parliament, leaving no room for fascism.” Jamaat-e-Islami is currently conducting a three-day nationwide program demanding national elections based on the July charter, introduction of PR in both parliamentary houses, equal opportunity for free and fair elections, visible accountability for the atrocities, corruption, and human rights violations of the current government, and the prohibition of National Party and 14-party coalition activities that support authoritarian rule.
