Govt to review 16 years of RAJUK operations

Online Desk : In a move aimed at enhancing transparency and accountability, the Ministry of Housing and Public Works has ordered a comprehensive audit of the Rajdhani Unnayan Kartripakkha (RAJUK), covering a 16-year period from 2009 to 2024. The Internal Audit Department of the Ministry will conduct the audit, reviewing all financial transactions—including income, expenditures, and the allocation and transfer of plots and flats. The initiative is intended to assess financial integrity, regulatory compliance, and governance practices within RAJUK, the key agency responsible for urban development in Dhaka. According to a press release issued on Sunday, the directive is based on the statutory functions of the Internal Audit Department, its Charter of Duties, and decisions taken during the Ministry’s Budget Management Committee meeting held on April 23, 2024.
The audit will be carried out in accordance with the Capital Development Authority Act and relevant rules and regulations. The Internal Audit Department has been instructed to prepare a detailed audit plan and submit comprehensive information about the audit team—names, designations, and contact details—to the Ministry prior to commencing the review. RAJUK will be kept fully informed throughout the process to ensure transparency and facilitate cooperation. The entire audit must be completed within three months of its initiation. Upon completion, a detailed audit report will be submitted to the Secretary of the Ministry of Housing and Public Works for review and necessary follow-up actions.
This marks one of the most extensive evaluations of RAJUK’s operations in recent years, underscoring the government’s commitment to strengthening institutional accountability and promoting good governance in urban planning and development.
