Italy keen to hire Bangladeshi workers : Home Adviser

Online Desk : Italy has shown a strong interest in recruiting more Bangladeshi workers through legal channels, Home Adviser Lt Gen (retd) Jahangir Alam Chowdhury said on Monday following a meeting with Italian Interior Minister Matteo Piantedosi in Dhaka. Speaking to reporters after the meeting, Jahangir said the Italian government highly values the work ethic of Bangladeshi workers and is keen to facilitate their legal migration. “They acknowledged that Bangladeshi workers are extremely hardworking and expressed a desire to bring them in legally, discouraging irregular migration through risky sea routes and third countries,” he said.
The adviser noted that Bangladesh also requested Italy to regularise the status of Bangladeshi migrants already residing there without legal documentation. In addition to migration, the two sides discussed strengthening cooperation between their respective law enforcement agencies, including the police, coast guard, and Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB). On a separate note, the adviser addressed the recent attack on NCP leader Hasnat Abdullah, confirming that 54 individuals have so far been detained. “No one involved in such acts will be spared,” he said, reaffirming the government’s zero-tolerance stance on political violence.
