Online Desk  :   Tahsina Rushdir Luna, the wife of missing BNP leader M Ilias Ali, has called on the interim government to publicly disclose the fate of her husband, who disappeared 13 years ago under suspicious circumstances, reports UNB. Speaking at a doa mahfil organized by the M Ilias Ali Gum Protirodh Committee at the BNP’s Nayapaltan central office, Luna said, “It is the government’s responsibility to clarify the fate of Ilias Ali. I urge the current administration to resolve this matter without delay.” Ilias Ali, the BNP’s organizing secretary, and his driver Ansar Ali went missing on the night of April 17, 2012, from Banani in the capital. Since then, the BNP has accused state security agencies and the Awami League-led government of involvement in their disappearance.

Luna, also a member of the BNP Chairperson’s Advisory Council, shared her family’s enduring hope that Ilias is alive and will return one day. “May this hope come true. Everyone, please keep Ilias Ali in your prayers,” she said. She further alleged that Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and her government orchestrated the disappearance as part of a broader campaign of political suppression. “We’ve waited long enough for an end to fascism in Bangladesh and the return of Ilias Ali,” she said. Luna noted that the family had submitted a case to the government’s Commission of Inquiry on Enforced Disappearances but had yet to receive any meaningful response. “It’s been seven to eight months since we filed, and still no word from the authorities,” she lamented.

Calling for accountability, she urged the government to disclose the status of all victims of enforced disappearances, including Ilias Ali, and to detail the steps taken toward justice. “You must explain what actions have been taken to investigate these crimes.” She also called for the commission to be strengthened so that those responsible can be identified and prosecuted. BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi also addressed the gathering, demanding a full investigation to determine what happened to Ilias Ali and to hold those responsible to account.
