Three people, including a woman and her son, were killed and two others were injured in a road accident on the Dhaka-Sylhet highway at Raipura upazila of Narsingdi district on Friday night. The accident took place at around 9pm in Bhiti Morjal area adjacent to Morjal Bus Stand on the highway.
The deceased were identified as Dolna Begum, 45, wife of Md Kasem Miah, and her son Ariyan, 10, both were resident of Borochar village under Uttarbakharnagar union, and Rana Miah, 19, son of Mokbul Hossain, a resident of Dhukundi village under Belabo upazila.
Quoting locals, highway police said a CNG-run autorickshaw with 5-6 persons were heading towards Bhiti Morjal from Morjal Bus Stand. On the way, a Brahmanbaria-bound ‘Labiba Paribahan’ bus rammed the autorickshaw from behind, leaving the trio dead on the spot and two others critically injured.
The injured were taken to Narsingdi General Hospital where the on-duty doctors referred them to Dhaka Medical College Hospital for better treatment. Bhairab Highway Police Station OC Mojammel Haque said being informed, police recovered the bodies and seized the autorickshaw from the spot. Legal actions are under process in this regard, the OC added.
