Online Desk : Kushtia-3 lawmaker Mufti Amir Hamza has been granted permanent bail in two defamation cases filed in Sirajganj. Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Suman Karmakar approved the bail petitions on Sunday after hearing arguments from both sides.
According to court sources, Amir Hamza had earlier secured anticipatory bail from the High Court before surrendering before the Sirajganj court. He subsequently sought bail in the two cases, which the court granted after hearing. The MP appeared before the court around 2:30PM amid heightened security measures, with additional police deployed in and around the court premises.
The cases were filed by Sirajganj District Bar Association General Secretary Humayun Kabir Kornel and BNP Senior Joint General Secretary VP Shamim Khan over alleged defamatory remarks made by Amir Hamza against Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Minister and BNP Standing Committee member Iqbal Hasan Mahmud Tuku.
An arrest warrant had previously been issued against the MP for failing to appear before the court within the stipulated time.
