NCP demands roadmap on elections, reforms, justice

Online Desk : Jatiya Nagorik Party (NCP) convener Nahid Islam has urged the interim government to announce a comprehensive roadmap addressing three critical issues—justice, judicial reforms, and national elections—alongside its promised July declaration. Speaking at an NCP press conference on Saturday, Nahid Islam stressed the urgency of timely action. “The July declaration must be published within the designated time-frame,” he said. “Judicial reforms and an electoral roadmap need to be outlined together. A fair resolution must come through inclusive and responsible discussions. Our conduct should reflect the national interest and the future security of Bangladesh.”
Addressing the issue of local elections, Nahid called for immediate action but criticized the current state of the Election Commission (EC). “Local government elections are essential, but we believe the EC has lost public trust. It must either take credible steps to regain that trust or consider stepping aside,” he stated. On the matter of student advisors Asif Mahmud and Mahfuj Alam, Nahid highlighted their role during the mass uprising. “They approached the government as public representatives during that movement, and I stood alongside them. However, if they now aim to engage in political activities or elections, they should not do so while holding government positions,” he said. He added, “We strongly condemn the misinformation being circulated by the National Citizen Party against these two advisors.”
The press conference was attended by other senior NCP figures, including member secretary Akhtar Hossain, senior joint convener Samantha Sharmin, chief coordinator Nasiruddin Patwari, and chief organizer for the southern region, Hasnat Abdullah.
