Polls to 5 city corporations: AL nominates mayoral candidates

Online Desk: The ruling Awami League has nominated its mayoral candidates for city corporation polls in Gazipur, Sylhet, Khulna, Rajshahi and Barishal.
The AL nominees are: Abul Khayer Abdullah in Barishal, Ajmatullah Khan in Gazipur; Khairuzzaman Liton in Rajshahi; Talukder Abdul Khalek in Khulna; and Anwaruzzaman Chowdhury in Sylhet.
Awami League general secretary Obaidul Quader made the announcement at a press conference at the gate of the Gono Bhaban. The ruling party brought three new faces this time in the mayoral election while two are incumbent mayors.
The Election Commission on April 3 announced the schedules of elections to five city corporations. The elections will be held in Gazipur on May 25, Khulna and Barishal on June 12, and Rajshahi and Sylhet on June 2.
