Success of political dialogue depends on unity of democratic forces : Ali Riaz

Online Desk : National Consensus Commission Vice Chairman Professor Ali Riaz on Tuesday said that the ongoing political dialogue in Bangladesh can only succeed if the country’s democratic forces remain united, reports UNB. Speaking during a dialogue between the Commission and the Revolutionary Workers Party at the LD Hall of the Jatiya Sangsad Complex, Prof Riaz noted, “The extent of our success depends on how united the democratic forces in Bangladesh can remain.”
He acknowledged the pluralistic nature of democracy, highlighting that while there are shared goals, different opinions must be resolved through constructive discussions. “We also see differences of opinion on various matters, which we aim to resolve through discussions. A democratic society is inherently pluralistic. We will not all speak the same language, but we share a common goal,” he added. Prof Riaz stressed the importance of seizing the current opportunity to begin a process of genuine state-building that reflects the will of the people.
A 10-member delegation from the Revolutionary Workers Party, led by General Secretary Saiful Haque, took part in the dialogue. Other members of the National Consensus Commission, including Safar Raj Hossain, Dr Badiul Alam Majumdar, and Dr Iftekharuzzaman, also participated. The session was moderated by Monir Haider, Special Assistant to the Chief Adviser. This dialogue is part of a broader initiative aimed at fostering political inclusivity and long-term democratic reform in Bangladesh.
