Online Desk : The prestigious magazine Wisden, known as the ‘Bible of the Cricket’, has published a list of the 15 best Test series of the 21st century. In which two different flavors of memories of Bangladesh have taken place – one full of victories and the other of bitter defeats. The 2016 Bangladesh-England series is at number 15 in Wisden’s list of the best Test series of the 21st century. In addition, the series against the West Indies in Bangladesh in the post-Covid period in 2021 is at number 7 on the list.
Young spinner Mehidy Hasan Miraz made his debut in this two-match series against England. Despite Sabbir Rahman’s brave batting in the first Test in Chittagong, the Tigers missed out on victory. However, history was made in the second Test in Mirpur with Miraz’s whirlwind. Chasing a target of 273 runs, England were all out for 164 runs without a wicket. Miraz took 6 wickets alone, Shakib Al Hasan shared the remaining four, ensuring a historic 108-run victory.
Higher up, the West Indies tour of Bangladesh in 2021 has taken the 7th spot. In the post-Covid era, many thought that the Caribbeans, who had brought a weak squad, would not be able to win. But Kyle Meyers’ incredible unbeaten innings of 210 runs in the Chittagong Test secured a 3-wicket victory for the West Indies. The second Test in Mirpur also saw competition heat up, but the visitors had the last laugh, clinching the series 2-0.
Other notable series on the list include the latest Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy, where the five-match Test series between England and India ended in a 2-2 draw, which is at number 5. The 2023 Ashes, which was drawn by the same margin between England and Australia, is at number 4.
Finally, India’s tour of Australia in the 2020-21 season has been recognised as the best Test series of the 21st century. India won the series 2-1 after being bowled out for just 36 runs in the first Test. According to Wisden, it is the most beautiful comeback story.
