2 workers killed in Badda chips factory fire

Online Desk : Two workers were killed in a fire that broke out at a chips manufacturing factory in Dhaka’s Badda area in the early hours of Monday. The fire broke out around 3:00 am at Abdullah Chips Factory on Kabarkhana Road in North Badda. The deceased were identified as Md Mostafa, 21, son of Majnu Mia of Boro Kumarpara village of Taraganj upazila in Rangpur and Mahmudul Hasan, 23, son of Islam Uddin of Kazipara village in the same upazila.
Confirming the matter, Fire Service Control Room official Lima Khanom said that two units responded immediately after receiving information about the fire. The blaze was brought under control after around one and a half hours of effort at approximately 4:30 am. She said the factory was a two-storey semi-pucca tin-shed structure. Following extinguishing operations, firefighters conducted a search inside the premises and recovered the bodies of the two workers.
The fire was primarily suspected to have originated from an electrical short circuit, though the exact cause has not yet been confirmed, Lima said. An investigation into the incident was underway, she said, adding that they were assessing the extent of the damage. Badda police station officer-in-charge Kazi Mohammad Nasirul Amin said that the bodies were sent to Dhaka Medical College Hospital morgue for post-mortem examinaiton. Legal procedures regarding the incident were in progress, he added.
