Online Desk: The ruling Awami League’s parliamentary committee meeting may finalise the party’s candidates for the president’s post. The meeting is going to be held at 7:30 pm on Tuesday on the eighth floor of Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban. Awami League’s seventh parliamentary party meeting will be chaired by the party’s parliamentary leader and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

Nomination papers have to be submitted to the Election Commission for the post of president on February 12. The nomination papers will be scrutinised the next day. If there are more than one candidate, members of parliament will elect the next president by voting on February 19.

In the last two presidential elections, ruling Awami League nominee Abdul Hamid was elected President. On April 24, 2018, the current President Abdul Hamid was sworn in for the second term. His five-year term will end on April 23. According to Article 123 of the constitution, the presidential election must be held 90 to 60 days before the expiry of the five-year term.
