Rizvi, Golam Parwar and Nur among eight leaders on remand

Online Desk  : A court in Dhaka has placed arrested eight opposition leaders including BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi, Jamaat-e-Islami Bangladesh Secretary General Mia Golam Parwar and Gana Adhikar Parishad president former DUCSU vice-president Nurul Huq Nur on a five-day remand. They have been placed on remand in a case filed with Pallabi Police Station over the attack and vandalising Kazipara Metro Rail Station during the quota reform movement at Kafrul Police Station in the capital. Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Md Moinul Islam’s passed the remand order on Sunday (July 28) afternoon. Other accused placed on remand were BNP publicity secretary Sultan Salahuddin Tuku, Dhaka City North BNP member secretary Aminul Huque, BNP leaders Kazi Sayedul Alam Babul and Mahmudus Salehin.

Earlier, investigation officer of the case and Pallabi Zonal Team’s inspector Md Asaduzzaman Munshi submitted a plea seeking 10-day remand for the accused showing them arrested in the case. It was stated in the remand plea that the miscreants entered Kazipara Metro Rail Station under Mirpur Model Police Station breaking the entry gate with local weapons like ramda, da, axes, shovels, cutters, hammers and equipment used for setting fire on July 19 last centering the quota reform movement. Then they caused damages worth Tk 50 crore damaging and vandalising the important equipments and other goods. There are lot of reasons that the accused were involved in the destructive activities after examining the video footage and taking statements of the direct and indirect witnesses. So, it is necessary to question them under remand. On July 22 last, Dhaka Mass Transit Company Limited (MRT Line-6) deputy director (Admn) Md Imam Uddin Kabir filed the case with Pallabi Police Station. In the case, he made some 5,000 to 6,000 people as the accused.
