Online Desk: The verdict on the rule over the legality of suspension of Gazipur mayor Jahangir Alam has been deferred. April 4 (Tuesday) has been fixed to deliver the court’s judgment. An HC bench of Justice Jafar Ahmed and Justice Md Bashir Ullah set the new date on Thursday.

Earlier on Marcxh 28, the hearing on the rule over the issue ended. The High Court on August 23, last year, issued a rule asking why Jahangir Alam’s suspension from the mayor post would no be declared illegal. Local government secretaries and concerned authorities have been asked to explain within two weeks.

On November 19, 2021, the ruling Awami League expelled Jahangir Alam from his position in the party after videos of Alam making derogatory comments on Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and the martyred freedom fighters of the Liberation War at a program went viral on social media.

A few days later, he was suspended as the Gazipur City Corporation mayor by the local government ministry over various allegations.
