Online Desk : The bodies of four Bangladeshi expatriates, who were found dead in a car in Oman, were laid to rest at Lalanagar School Ground in Rangunia, Chattogram, around 11:30am on Wednesday (May 20). Thousands of people attended their funeral prayers, while grief engulfed their family and the entire area. The deceased brothers were Rashedul Islam, Shahedul Islam, Sirajur Islam and Shahidul Islam. Their only surviving brother, Enamul Haque, a madrasa teacher, led the funeral prayers.
Earlier on Tuesday night (May 19), the bodies arrived at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka, where Member of Parliament Hummam Quader Chowdhury received them. From there, the bodies were taken to their village home in Rangunia. Hummam Quader said the entire area was mourning the deaths of the four brothers. He added that the government had provided immediate financial assistance to the family for the burial and transportation of the bodies.
Earlier, on May 13, the bodies of the four brothers were found in the Muladdah area of Oman. The Royal Oman Police primarily suspected that they may have died from carbon monoxide poisoning caused by the exhaust fumes of an air conditioner while they were inside the car. Family members said two of the deceased brothers had been scheduled to return home on May 15. On that occasion, the brothers had gone out shopping together. After hearing the news of her sons’ deaths, their mother fell ill.
Rangunia Upazila Nirbahi Officer Md Nazmul Hasan said that, according to government regulations, the family of each deceased expatriate would receive financial assistance of Tk 300,000. Efforts were underway to ensure the funds were delivered as quickly as possible.
