Online Desk : The chairman of the National Board of Revenue (NBR), Md Abdur Rahman Khan, announced on Sunday that the board will no longer accept tax return submissions in paper format. He stated that certain professions are now required to submit returns online as part of the digitalization initiative, and he expressed hope that all taxpayers will voluntarily transition to e-filing as the issues surrounding online submissions are being addressed.
Abdur Rahman made this announcement during a press conference at Rajashwa Bhaban in Dhaka, held to mark Income Tax Information Service Month 2024. He noted that taxpayers are submitting e-returns daily, revealing that approximately 16.7 lakh taxpayers have submitted their e-returns so far this year, with expectations of a significant increase by year-end. Emphasising the security of online tax information, the NBR chief assured that there are no security concerns.
“The individuals who developed this programme cannot access it themselves. When a taxpayer submits their return within a specific circle, no one outside that circle can access that information. We will ensure 100 percent confidentiality of this data,” he added. Regarding the e-return submission process, he mentioned that tutorials will be made available, along with separate training sessions at the Secretariat and Rajashwa Bhaban.
