‘No difference between Hasina’s budget and proposed Budget’

Online Desk : Ruhul Kabir Rizvi, BNP Senior Joint Secretary General, has criticized the recently announced budget by the interim government. “You (the government) have announced a budget of Tk 7.90 trillion. What is the difference between this budget and Sheikh Hasina’s budget? Sheikh Hasina also allowed the whitening of black money, and so have you.” He made these remarks on Tuesday afternoon while distributing Eid essentials among the underprivileged in front of the party’s central office in Paltan, on the occasion of the 44th martyrdom anniversary of Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman.
“We want Bangladesh to do well. Let there be a fair and acceptable election. Advisers remain silent when asked about when the election will be held and how long it will be delayed,” said Rizvi. He further stated, “In this Taka 7.90 lakh crore budget, over 23 percent will go just for administrative salaries. Another 14 percent will go to interest payments. So what have you kept for the poor?” Rizvi also said, “Allocations for the health and education sectors are low. But we need more investment in health and education. The government is responsible for ensuring healthcare for the general public.”
Reflecting on the legacy of BNP founder and former President Ziaur Rahman, Rizvi said, “It’s not enough to call Ziaur Rahman just a leader—he was a trailblazing leader. He walked miles upon miles to understand the suffering of the people. He initiated many commendable programs. Ziaur Rahman changed the fate of the nation.”He added, “Ziaur Rahman came to power at a time when there was a political crisis and an economic crisis at the same time. During the 1974 famine, the poor couldn’t even get a handful of rice. After such disastrous conditions, he came to power. He launched various initiatives to boost food production. He took steps to provide agricultural loans from banks at low interest rates. Through such efforts, he laid a strong foundation for the entire nation.”
