Online Desk  :   BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman, in a virtual address to a rally at Kishoreganj Old Stadium on Monday, announced a new policy proposal that would provide food support to families if the BNP returns to power.  Rahman proposed the introduction of a “family card,” which would ensure food assistance to households based on their needs. Rahman expressed his desire to work for the welfare of the country if BNP, with the support of the people, is able to regain power in the future. “We will issue a family card to each household, starting with rural areas and expanding to urban centers,” he said.

He emphasized that the family card would be issued in the name of mother or housewife in each family and that food supplies would be provided every month to help families meet their basic needs. During the rally, financial assistance was also given to families of those who were martyred or injured during past uprisings. Rahman used the occasion to outline BNP’s goals, which include not only the restoration of political rights but also the economic empowerment of the people. “We want to make the people of Bangladesh self-reliant economically,” Rahman stated.

In his speech, Rahman underscored the importance of maintaining unity and vigilance against remnants of autocratic forces. He warned that while dictators may have been ousted, the “ghosts” of such regimes continue to pose a threat. He urged pro-democracy parties and citizens to remain alert against potential conspiracies by those seeking to undermine political rights.

He also criticized the current government for attempting to divide the nation to maintain its grip on power, stating that the BNP, in contrast, seeks unity and national solidarity. “Only a government elected by the people has the obligation and accountability to serve them,” Rahman said, emphasizing that the sacrifices made by those who fought for voting rights would be fully honored under a BNP government.

In a personal note, Tarique Rahman asserted his commitment to Bangladesh, stating, “I have no address outside Bangladesh. This country is my first and last address.” He reiterated BNP’s commitment to the welfare of the country and pledged that any future BNP government would work in line with the people’s aspirations. The rally was presided over by BNP Kishoreganj district unit president Shariful Alam.
