Online Desk : Following the increase in fuel prices, bus fares have been raised by 11 paisa per kilometre. In Dhaka and Chattogram metropolitan areas, the fare for buses and minibuses has increased from Tk 2.42 per kilometre to Tk 2.53 per kilometre. On long-distance routes, bus fares have gone up from Tk 2.12 per kilometre to Tk 2.23 per kilometre. Road Transport and Bridges Minister Sheikh Robiul Alam announced the new fares for buses and minibuses at the Secretariat on Thursday (April 23).
On April 18, the government announced an increase in fuel prices. The price of diesel increased by Tk 15 per litre, octane by Tk 20, petrol by Tk 19, and kerosene by Tk 18. The new fuel prices came into effect from midnight on April 19.
Following this, bus owners and workers became active in pushing for an increase in public transport fares. Previously, bus fares were also increased in 2022 following a rise in fuel prices.
