DoE’s new office to be Dhaka’s first govt green building : Rizwana

Online Desk : Environment Adviser Syeda Rizwana Hasan has announced that the Department of Environment’s (DoE) new office will be constructed as Dhaka’s first government green building. The facility will also function as an Environmental Centre of Excellence, equipped with advanced green technologies such as rainwater harvesting, solar power, and sewage treatment plant (STP) systems. Rizwana noted that expertise from the garment sector-already a global leader in green building practices-will be leveraged in the initiative.
She made the remarks while addressing the Annual Development Programme (ADP) Implementation Progress Review Meeting at the ministry’s conference room in the Bangladesh Secretariat on Sunday. The adviser further said DoE offices will also be set up in industrial hubs like Gazipur to strengthen environmental monitoring at the local level. Adequate transportation facilities will be provided to ensure effective enforcement. Highlighting the importance of timely and efficient project execution, Rizwana stressed that delays or negligence in government initiatives undermine public expectations. She urged all concerned officials to carry out their responsibilities with sincerity and commitment.
The meeting was attended by Dr Farhina Ahmed, Secretary of the Environment Ministry; Mohammad Navid Shafiullah, Additional Secretary (Climate Change); Md Khayrul Hasan, Additional Secretary (Administration and Development); Dr Md Kamruzzaman, Director General of DoE; and various project directors.
