Online Desk  :  Election Commission (EC) Senior Secretary Akhtar Ahmed on Wednesday has said that the US will not send official observers to the referendum and the upcoming 13th National Parliament elections. He made the remarks after a meeting with the US Ambassador at the Election Building. Akhtar Ahmed said that the US will not send any observer team from there. However, an independent team will come, which will come from the US and they will go to Dhaka, Sylhet, Chattogram and Khulna from the embassy to observe on their own. However, they are not formal observers; they will go to see how the voting situation is.

In response to a question, the EC Secretary said that they have said that a delegation from the embassy will go to four such places to see. They will go independently, not as observers. That is, not as our listed observers, but as they see it. Regarding the code of conduct, he further said, “We have to work on secondary information. I am not personally present there (in the relevant constituency). So, we have to get information from the returning officer, then take necessary measures. We are trying to resolve these quickly.”In response to another question, the EC Secretary said, the US ambassador wanted to know what our security management is. We said that about 950,000 security personnel will work at different levels.
