Want to vote as transparent as mirrors : CEC

Online Desk : Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) AMM Nasir Uddin said arrangements have been made for IT-supported postal ballots for expatriates in consultation with experts. “This time, we will bring nearly one million people, including election officials, law enforcement officers, government employees, and prisoners, under the scope of voting. The provision already existed in law, but we have now taken the initiative to implement it,” he said. The CEC made these remarks on Monday during a meeting with electronic media professionals at the Nirbachan Bhaban conference hall in the capital’s Agargaon. Four other Election Commissioners and Election Commission officials were present in the meeting.
Emphasizing the importance of media cooperation, he said, “Without your support, it is impossible to hold a free and fair election—that is evident.” Mr. Nasir further added, “We want to hold an election that is as transparent as a mirror. For this, everyone’s cooperation is essential.” Highlighting the commission’s achievements, he noted, “Since taking office, we have updated the voter list. We identified more than 2.1 million deceased voters, many of whom might have been counted otherwise, as reported in the media. We also registered over 4.3 million new voters. The gender gap in voter registration, once 3 million, has now come down to 1.8 million. This has encouraged greater participation, especially among women who had previously lost interest in becoming voters.”
He also mentioned, “The Reform Commission has made our work easier by engaging with various stakeholders. That is why our dialogue is taking place a little later.” Reiterating the need for collaboration, the CEC said, “We have consistently called for fair and credible elections. Today’s dialogue is not just a formality—we want to move forward with your opinions. Equal opportunities for all require your cooperation. The media, as a partner, is vital in addressing misinformation and disinformation.”
