Online Desk : AF Hassan Ariff, adviser to the Ministry of Civil Aviation and Tourism and the Ministry of Land, was laid to rest at the Martyred Intellectuals Graveyard in Mirpur today (Dec 23). The senior lawyer of the Bangladesh Supreme Court was buried at 10:30 am. His son, Muazz Ariff, along with other distinguished individuals, was present at the time.
Besides, Home and Agriculture Adviser Lt. Gen. (retd) Md. Jahangir Alam Chowdhury, Senior Secretary of the Ministry of Lands Saleh Ahmed, Secretary of the Ministry of Civil Aviation and Tourism Nasreen Jahan, and other officials attended the event. In honour of the late AF Hassan Ariff, the nation is observing a one-day state mourning today.
As part of the observance, the national flag has been hoisted at half-mast at all government, semi-government, and autonomous institutions, educational establishments, private buildings, and Bangladesh missions abroad. Additionally, special prayers are being offered in mosques and other religious institutions, seeking eternal peace for the departed soul. Hassan Ariff, 83, was rushed to Labaid Hospital in Dhaka after falling ill unexpectedly on Friday (Dec 21). Doctors at the hospital declared him dead shortly thereafter. Chief Adviser Prof Muhammad Yunus, along with members of the Advisory Council and political leaders, earlier expressed their profound grief and condolences over the death of Hassan Ariff.
