Joint forces’ operation to continue ahead of National Elections : EC

Online Desk : Election Commissioner Abul Fazal Md. Sanaullah on Sunday confirmed that the joint forces’ operation will continue to maintain law and order ahead of the upcoming 13th National Assembly elections and referendum. Speaking at a briefing on law and order at the Election Building auditorium in Agargaon, Md. Sanaullah said, “The operation is ongoing and will continue. We provide regular updates through press briefings. About 2,000 people are being arrested every day as part of these measures.”
Earlier, Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) AMM Nasir Uddin convened a meeting with representatives of various security forces to review the overall law and order situation ahead of the elections. The meeting, which began at 2:50 pm at the Election Building, was attended by the Principal Secretary to the Chief Advisor, Senior Secretary of the Home Ministry, the three service chiefs or their representatives, Principal Staff Officers of the Armed Forces Division, and heads of key security agencies including the Inspector General of Police (IGP), NSI, DGFI, Coast Guard, BGB, RAB, Ansar and VDP directors, and the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) commissioner.
Four election commissioners — Abdur Rahmanel Machud, Tahmida Ahmed, Md. Anwarul Islam Sarkar, and Abul Fazal Md. Sanaullah — along with Election Commission Secretary Akhtar Ahmed, were also present.
Earlier in the day, from 12 noon to 1 pm, Chief of Army Staff General Waker-Uz-Zaman, Chief of Navy Admiral Mohammad Nazmul Hassan, and Chief of Air Staff Air Chief Marshal Hasan Mahmood Khan met with CEC AMM Nasir Uddin at the Election Building. This marks the first meeting between the Election Commission and the three service chiefs following the announcement of the voting schedule for the 13th National Assembly elections.
