Online Desk :  Mathbaria, a constituency in Pirujpur-3, has witnessed journalist Md.Shahidul Islam Shapon, a candidate from the Bangladesh Kalyan Party, vying for victory in the upcoming twelfth national parliamentary elections. He has symbolized his candidacy with a clock as his party emblem. Vowing to build a drug-free Mathbaria if elected, Shapon has communicated his intentions to the media. The Pirojpur district returns office has provided information that the Pirojpur-3 constituency comprises Mathbaria Upazila, one municipal council, and 11 unions, totaling 223,441 voters. Among them, there are 112,967 male voters and 110,474 female voters. The constituency covers Mathbaria Pourashava along with the unions of Amardagachhia, Tikikata, Tushkhali, Dawudkhali, Dhanisafa, Badmazua, Betmor Rajpara, Matbbaria, Mirukhali, Shapleja, and Holta Gulishakhali.

Out of the 14 candidates contesting for the seat, nine candidates’ nominations have been validated, while five have been invalidated for various reasons. Abdul Latif Siraji from Bangladesh Khelafat Andolon had his nomination invalidated due to failure in submitting income tax returns. Prashant Kumar Hawladar from Bangladesh Workers Party faced invalidation owing to credit card loan default. Independent candidate Sudhir Ranjan Vishwas had his nomination invalidated for not providing necessary documents.

Validated candidates include Ashraful Rahman from Awami League, Dr. Rustom Ali Faraji, an independent candidate, Bangladesh Kalyan Party’s Shahidul Islam Shapon, Hosain Mosharraf Sakhu, Chandrashakhar Ojha from Jaker Party, Rahman, Mosharraf Hossen, Mashrekul Alam Robi, and Jashim Mia.

Speaking about his candidacy, Shahidul Islam Shapon clarified that none of the previous members of the aforementioned unions had been involved in politics before. He expressed joy at representing the area and stated that he aims to win the people’s trust through his candidacy.

Regarding his plans for the constituency’s development if elected, Shapon emphasized his commitment to modernize Mathbaria, constructing a bypass road, a modern bus terminal, a bridge over the Balishwar River, and a mini stadium for sports activities. He also mentioned initiatives for the welfare of journalists in terms of housing facilities and the establishment of a modern children’s park. Additionally, he pledged to prioritize solving unemployment issues and improving the standard of living in Mathbaria. Local citizens shared their opinions on Shapon, describing him as a benevolent and approachable figure, hoping that he would prioritize the area’s development if elected.

Md. Shahidul Islam Shapon concluded by calling upon everyone to join the Bangladesh Kalyan Party’s journey towards building a smarter and democratic Bangladesh, symbolized by their flag.
